John 21:15-19

Jesus offers Peter an opportunity for repentance and reconciliation. His threefold denial is now balanced by his threefold profession of faith in the Good Shepherd. It is in that exchange that Peter becomes the shepherd who will ultimately lay down his life for his sheep.

How Peter must have suffered because of his weakness and infidelity. Jesus’ love for him brought him through to reconciliation and the courage to profess his love for his Lord.
