John 21:1-14

Seven of the disciples are fishing. Jesus appears for the third time on the shore. Of the seven disciples present, it is John, the beloved disciple, who recognizes Jesus. Their fishing efforts are futile without him, but once he is present, their catch is plentiful. Jesus prepares a meal for them. Without saying a word, he teaches them that they must have servants’ hearts. For their work to be fruitful, they must depend solely on God.

I sometimes wonder what it will take for me to believe wholeheartedly that I can do nothing without you. I get close but then fall back into stubborn self-sufficiency. I pray to lean on you, to listen to you, to let you.
